With tight growth restrictions placed on communities in the Adirondacks since 1973, we looked at the Town of Lake George to see what changes over a 30 year time period have occurred. We found that the percentage of renter occupied to owner occupied housing dropped 4 percent, while seasonal-use housing increased by 85 percent and the percentage of seasonal-use housing to total housing units increased almost 3 percent over a 30 year time period. Assessed property values since 1980 increased almost one hundred percent while Town tax rates per $1000 of assessed value decreased by more than half. The overall population increased but the number of individuals in poverty decreased 21 percent. The total number of families increased 35 percent yet the number of families in poverty decreased 59 percent.
